Quitting Smoking

Quitting smoking can be challenging for anyone, often harder than quitting other drugs, but with the right resources and tools, a smoker can become an ex-smoker

Why You Smoke Right Now

What many people don’t realize is that smoking is not as disgusting to the person who is doing the smoking in the first place. When you first take a drag off a cigarette, you might have a fit of coughing and you might feel a little dizzy and even nauseous, but the nicotine has a way of pulling you in. Your head suddenly feels clearer and you might feel less tense than you did before. But while that first cigarette might have helped you feel better, you begin to need more and more cigarettes in order to feel that way again. Thus begins the addiction to smoking.

The First Time You Quit

With the withdrawal symptoms of quitting smoking, you might find that you are unable to stop completely. You might stop smoking for a few days, but then your body craves the smokes again. What would your life have been like had you never started smoking? With the proper smoking education resources, you might have learned the dangers of smoking and have been less likely to start smoking and inhaling in the first place. But even if you’re now stuck with the addiction of nicotine, this doesn’t mean that you’re doomed to a life of smoking.

You Can Quit Smoking Today

No matter how many times you might have tried to quit smoking in the past, this doesn’t mean that failed attempts predict a future of not being able to ever quit. Many smokers find that it takes them a few different attempts before they are able to completely quit smoking. Though you might have to choose a few different smoking cessation tools, you will eventually find the one that works with for you and for your smoking habits. In time, you can become an ex-smoker.

The Problem of Smoking

The real issue with smoking today is that it’s widely accepted in society. There are still people in the movies and on TV who are smoking, making it seem more acceptable and even cool. Children see these images and while the shows might not make them smoke, smoking cigarettes doesn’t seem as big of a deal as some tobacco education programs make it seem. In time, they too are smoking and wishing they had never started.

Smoking is a big problem, one that society as a whole needs to tackle. While it’s easy to blame the problem of smoking on the person who is smoking, this is not the whole picture and it’s certainly not something which can be limited to just one person’s habits. Though tobacco is regulated, this doesn’t mean that it doesn’t end up in the hands of those who shouldn’t be smoking in the first place.

Going beyond the idea of the health dangers of smoking, the habit is not attractive and it can be one of the hardest to quit without any help from others. To ensure that you able to put your cigarettes down, you need to make sure you have the smoking cessation resources you need to finally put that cigarette out – for the last time.
